How to Investigate Ethereum Address?

Criminals and Scammers scam people and get their cryptocurrency. To get value from stolen cryptocurrency. There are various methods used by them refer to this article for more . These addresses are created privately by each user’s wallets. However, once addresses are used, they become tainted by the history of all transactions they are involved with. Anyone can see the balance and all transactions of any address.

How Bitquery explorer helps you in tracking your money, and what all resources can be used to resolve your problems.

Visualizing an Ethereum address

In this article, we will take this Etheruem address (0x477573f212a7bdd5f7c12889bd1ad0aa44fb82aa) as an example and analyze it.

Associated addresses and Transactions

Bitquery explorer allows you to visualize transactions and addresses associated with a particular address. Using the Bitquery Money Flow API, You can get the details about money inflow and outflow.

For example -

These are the addresses associated with 3rd party Authorities.

Bitquery doesn’t help you in recovering your money or undo your scam, it can help you trace the transaction details, and you can contact the related authorities.

MoneyFlow API

It has 2 options for visualizing the transactions. One way is through Graph. The other way is

Sankey method.

In this method, we have certain depth levels and different currency transfers. You can see the transaction trail and can increase the depth of transactions by increasing or decreasing the inbound and outbound hops. Increasing the outbound could help you trace where your money went. It’s a tool you can use to trace the amount of money incoming and outgoing from a particular address Please refer to this video for more.

The Sankey method provides the data to be visualized in various currencies as well. You can also check on the address linked to your transactions just by right-clicking on the address in the Sankey and the graph method. It provides various other details like if the transaction is a coinbase transaction or not.

Address Annotation

We annotate addresses everywhere, which helps you provide context. For example, you can see the latest transactions of the given address where we annotated the addresses of the receivers.

Coinpath APIs

Coinpath® APIs is a unique solution to trace crypto assets on-chain. Our APIs are used by many industry leaders in the Compliance, surveillance, and investigation market.

One of the APIs is Inflow API, which lets you know about all the Inbound Transfers of that particular address. One can see the sender’s address, amount, currency, block number, and the transaction hash of a particular transaction. You can also customise this by editing this Query.

The other API is Outflow API, which lets you know the information about Outbound Transfers of the given address. This API gives you all the addresses which send money to the given address over the number of hops. A hop is a transfer from one address to another address. We use heuristic and machine learning algorithms to provide accurate tracking of digital assets over the number of hops.

You can customise the number of hops, tokens and other parameters as well. Also refer to the graphql query for All the Transactions Outflow

A combination of these 2 APIs will provide the information of your fund’s origin as well as the destination. We also provide information about addresses, which helps you identify what type of exchange, smart contracts, wallets and other services are used during each transaction.

Will I get my Money Back?

Bitquery is an API provider of Blockchains. We do provide you with the data required for tracking, which might or might not be 100 per cent accurate as the data is being collected from public resources only. We can only provide you the Cryptocurrency addresses, which are the only information used to define where currencies are allocated and where they are sent. Most of the addresses are annotated with the 3rd Party Authorities. You will have to contact them for next steps.

  1. The video link in the article is broken , please check:

  1. Sankey appears to be a folded graph. Is there something I am missing? It does not seem like any ML is used / required here, more specifically what do you mean by :

“We use heuristic and machine learning algorithms to provide accurate tracking of digital assets over the number of hops.”

  1. Is there an address metadata query API ? Again, specifically, where can we find api for this :

“We also provide information about addresses, which helps you identify what type of exchange, smart contracts, wallets and other services are used during each transaction”

  1. Suggestion: it will help if examples are provided with below statement to help reader understand what do you mean by “3rd party authorities”:

Most of the addresses are annotated with the 3rd Party Authorities. You will have to contact them for next steps.

The link will be uploaded in a few days again, the ml used is what tokens are sent and whether those tokens are used further for money laundering or other purposes. No such query we show databased on annotations.
